The vehicle registration document doesn’t lie! It certifies that the Volkswagen T5 Multivan Comfortline with the 2.0 litre four cylinder TSi engine packs a 204 hp (150 kW) punch. In this case it also certifies that this version distributes the power to all four wheels (4-motion) and can be driven in the optimal speed range via a 7-speed double clutch gearbox. And in particular it certifies that the T5 Multivan is a combi saloon.
Now, 204 hp is not necessarily an obstacle for the performance-savvy MTM technicians. On the contrary, Roland Mayer especially welcomes Volkswagens and Audis, which inherently put in a very nifty lap time, to the MTM manor. “We give cars that are capable from the start of a fast to sporty turn of speed that extra kick to make them even sportier and more assured.”
The T5 Multivan is no exception. Following its careful upgrade at MTM the saloon sports the moniker MTM 400, delivers 360 hp (265 kW) at 6,295 rpm and boasts 465 Nm of torque. That makes the T 400 capable of great things: for example, it manages the sprint to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 30.64 seconds, achieving its top speed significantly in excess of 200 km/h. That may not be enough for the yellow jersey but it does mean you won’t be getting in anyone’s way on the road. Behind it all is a tried and tested, electronic MTM control element for engine management, a turbo charger with flow-optimised front pipe, also designed by MTM, and an MTM exhaust system, which acts as an acoustic trademark.
The chassis is optimally prepared for this performance boost – with full air-suspension in addition to the powerful 6-cylinder fixed-calliper brake (405 x 36 mm, punched) for the front axle. And the looks are in keeping with the technology. The reason: the MTM 400 is mounted on 9″x20″ ET 42 Bimoto wheels, shod with Michelin SuperSports (275/35 ZR20). As a result, the saloon is fit for any road and not deficient in any discipline.
