MTM R8 LMS
19.02.2014

The latest editions of both AUTO BILD SPORTSCARS and sport auto carry extensive reports on top performances by MTM-modified Audis. Lap records on the Sachsenring and at Hockenheim and a first place in a comparison test with prominent competitors.

1st place: MTM R8 LMS – fastest street legal car on the Sachsenring
On the Sachsenring, AUTO BILD SPORTSCARS’s testers got to grips with a road legal MTM R8 LMS. The 5.2 litre, V10 engine delivers 606 hp at 8,000 rpm, transmitting its power via a sequential 6-speed gearbox. The R8 road racer sprints to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, passing the 200 km/h mark after 10.2 seconds. The fastest lap on the race track was a lap record: 1:28.89 min. The report culminated in the statement: “seldom has a fast car felt so safe.”

1st place: MTM S3 – winner of the AUTO BILD SPORTSCARS test versus AMG
At Hockenheim the same magazine’s test crew voted MTM’s modified Audi S3 into first place in a head to head comparison with a BMW M 135i and an A45 AMG.
With a lap time of 1:14.30 the MTM S3 may not have been the fastest, and inferior to its competitors in terms of engine power, but the package won the testers over despite that. The rationale: the set-up is the one best suited to everyday use, with the lowest fuel consumption test figures and the greatest comfort. What it lacks in power, it makes up for in agility. Also, with accredited acceleration figures of 5.0 seconds to 100 km/h and 17.3 seconds to 200 km/h, you can’t really talk about a deficiency. After all, the 4-cylinder turbo delivers powerful 360 hp at between 5,500 and 6,200 rpm. The speed is limited to 250 km/h.

1st place: MTM RS6 R – fastest estate car in Hockenheim
Sport auto put the MTM RS6 R through its paces at Hockenheim. The Avant made it round the compact course in 1:11.6. No estate car had ever clocked a faster time there. This is how sport auto summed it up: never before has an estate car so competently reconciled family demands with those of the race track as has the 722 hp MTM Audi RS 6. The power is sufficient for a top speed of 340 km/h and it doesn’t take long to get there either. The 100 km/h and 200 km/h marks are passed after 3.4 and 11.4 seconds respectively. The 880 Nm of torque is applied to the road via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
