Essen Motorshow 2015
11.11.2015

Together with prestigious tyre manufacturer Michelin Tyres, AutoBild Sportcars invited a number of tuning houses to the Sachsenring circuit for an assault on some records – and twenty-one aspiring contenders turned up for the showdown.
MTM entered their Multivan T500 and an RS6 Clubsport into the challenge in two of the twelve different classes. For the record attempt both cars were entrusted to the experienced hands of AutoBild Sportscars’ driver Guido Naumann. The rather stark interior furnishings of this T500 – no supportive side-bolsters on the seats and large plastic steering wheel without paddles for the DSG gearbox – meant that Guido had to accept some compromises from behind the wheel, but nonetheless managed to set a new record for vans of 1:45.31. The T500 has had the power of its TTRS-derived 5–cylinder power-plant boosted to 472PS. The addition of a KW-lowering kit in combination with 265/35 R20 Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres completed the technical preparations for the record-breaking attempt.
Guido Naumann then prepared himself to hunt down the existing MTM-held record for Estate Cars of 1:37.63 set with the previous 685PS-version of the RS6 Clubsport. Now developing 802PS thanks to a larger turbocharger, plus a further 80kg trimmed off the weight and shod with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres, the latest RS6 Clubsport managed a new record of 1:34.49. “The track is where it counts”, remarked Roland Mayer exultantly after obtaining two new class records in one day, “and we are still capable of more record-breaking laps with the completely street-legal MTM R8 LMS”.
