Stefan Helmreich should know: as the road test editor for trade magazine Auto Bild sportscars, driving cool cars on hot tyres at speed is part of his daily routine. His ability to detect and express even marginal differences in performance is the product of extensive experience. This is especially in demand when he is called upon to judge twins: an Audi RS Q3, modified by MTM and another by Abt and also – as a benchmark so to speak – the production version, which with its 310 hp is also no slouch. Both Abt and MTM have upgraded by 100 hp and are squared up for the duel with their 410 hp, namely a power output per litre of 165 hp. The sprint and elasticity results reveal that the MTM toed the line with the higher torque: 570 Nm compared with 530. To that extent there is a sound foundation for a readily measurable lead in all disciplines in the “longitudinal dynamics ”category. Helmreich also sees the MTM RS Q3 as having an advantage in the “transverse dynamics”, “suitability for daily use”and “emotion” criteria. That means victory for MTM’s interpretation of the RS Q3 and for Roland Mayer respectively, the company’s Managing Director, which set up shop 20 years ago in Wettstetten, next door to Audi in Ingolstadt. “The acceleration and braking performance figures measured by Auto Bild sportscars are pretty well exactly in line with our experience. I am of course very gratified that our systematic quality offensive has been reflected in such a positive vote under the “suitability for everyday use” heading.”
